Q&A
Who are the members of the band
and how did you all get together?
Matt Kurzban – vocals, guitars
Robert Cuevas – bass, backing vocals
Jeff Baker – drums
Roy Steinbock– guitars, backing vox
Matt started the group in 1997 initially known as IMMORAL
FIBRES. They've recently changed their name to DAMN GLAD.
As the founding member of the group, the inevitable revolving
door of bandmates has been in motion since its original
incarnation. “In the past, I’ve had band members that felt
more like business partners rather than bandmates/friends.
The guys with me now are no doubt, the best I’ve had. Great
personalities and incredible musicianship. We can actually
get in the van together and enjoy each others company, which
is essential.
Where is the band from?
We hail from New York City, baby!!!
Do you have any CD's available
to purchase and where?
We've are in the middle of recording our first full length
cd. We have recently changed our name to DAMN GLAD (formerly
IMMORAL FIBRES). So we are in the process of relaunching
our site and re-creating public awareness of our name change.
Who produced your latest release?
We are producing our latest cd in our own studios. We know
what we like to hear and have a great feel for the canvass
as well as the colors in our palette.
What are your plans for the rest
of the year? Recording, touring, etc...
Our goals for the rest of the year is to play, play, play.
We are concentrating more on out of town markets rather
than NYC these days. Although you can still see us around
town a couple times a month. Also in the process of building
an effective team from street promotions to booking agents.
If you like what we do and wanna help out with street team
promotions in your town, please get in touch with us through
our site www.damnglad.com
We have recently signed a non-exclusive marketing/distribution
agreement with Maximum Velocity Records which is a new internet
based label. We’ll see what happens with that. Selling lots
of cds and merchandise is more of a priority for us than
anything else.
Who are the band's biggest influences?
Our biggest influence? That’s a tough
one. Our influences range from classic
rock to cutting edge alternative to
Motown, R&B. I’d say I see shades
of Live, Collective Soul, Tonic, Jeff
Buckley, Pink Floyd in our music.
I could name more but I won’t. It’s
all about great songs with hooks and
melodies and less emphasis on being
self indulgent musicians looking to
solo.
What is the most memorable show
you've ever played?
That’s an easy one. Hands down I’d
say playing Woodstock ’99. We were
one of the few unsigned bands from
NYC chosen to perform on the Emerging
Artists stage and got to kick the
whole thing off. What an experience.
What is the hardest thing to do
while being in a band?
The hardest challenge is finding the time to keep the day
to day operations going. Booking shows months in advance,
promoting, prospecting radio, press, following up, getting
results all while working day jobs.
